Riley Schlegel, 13, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 24, 2011, near Remus.
His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 28, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., Mt. Pleasant, with Rev. Doyle Perry of Faith Indian Church of the Nazarene officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. and on Friday one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Youth Group at Faith Indian Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home
Riley was born March 5, 1998, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Donald Carl and Brenda Sue (Detzler) Schlegel. He was currently enrolled in the 8th grade at West Intermediate School where he played Oboe in the band. He was a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and belonged to the Youth Group at Faith Indian Church.
Riley loved music and his computer games. He was a former Cub Scout and enjoyed the time he spent in Little League Baseball, karate, fishing, and his winter bowling league. He will mostly be remembered for his funny, boisterous, and determined personality who always challenged the answer at hand.
Riley is survived by his parents, Don and Brenda Schlegel of Mt. Pleasant; siblings, Steven Schlegel of Flint and Sully, Elissa and Aaron Schlegel all at home; paternal grandparents, Paul and Henryetta (Parmalee) "Micky" Schlegel of Remus; and aunts and uncles, Lois (Jack) Adair, Betty Meeker, Chuck Parmalee, Marty Bellmer, Joan Murawski, John (Janice) Schlegel, Ada Lyric, Sonny (wife) Bellmer, David (Karrie Knapp) Detzler, and Annette Buckner.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Seraphine and Anna Detzler; uncle, Steven Schlegel; and great aunt and uncle, William and Mavis Netmop.
